The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada has been fighting since 1955 when five women
joined together with the mission of finding a cure for Leukemia. In 2004, the group became affiliated with the LLS of America and added to the mandate, improving the quality of life of patients and their families. Anyone who has had a loved one suffering from cancer knows how important it is to have a group walking beside you, supporting you, carrying you, listening to you and guiding you in your every move.
Presently, over 110,000 Canadians suffer from one of the invasive blood cancers and every 25 minutes someone is diagnosed. In 2014 approximately 1,500 children were found to have Lymphoblastic Leukemia, most common in children under the age of 14. It is most encouraging, though, to hear that the survival rate has increased steadily from 1975 to 2010. But there is still a long way to go.
