Upon arrival at the pier, you may experience some frustration at the amount of chaos and
crowds amidst the heat. There will likely be touts calling out asking for 20+ baht to take you to your hotel. Unless you have arranged prior transport with your hotel, these touts will be your only transport to your hotel unless you prefer to walk, which is very doable since so much of the accommodation is in the village. The transport can be trusted and they are just trying to make a living, so they may be persistent. Some hotels will send someone to meet you at the pier to carry your luggage and guide you to the hotel. Keep in mind you may not be walking on a smooth path and a backpack, rather than a rolling bag, can make the walk much easier. You should give a tip that you think is appropriate to the person who carries your luggage, although they may not expect it.It is highly advisable to book accommodation before arriving on the island. It will make your arrival and your first day on the island much more pleasant and relaxed.
